Audited Financial Statements

Audited Financial Statements

(Municipal Affairs Reporting)

The Village of Donalda is required under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act to prepare and publish audited financial statements each year. These statements are submitted to Alberta Municipal Affairs and are made available to the public to support transparency and accountability in municipal financial management.

The audited financial statements are prepared in accordance with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards and are independently audited by an external auditor. The audit provides assurance that the statements fairly present the Village’s financial position and results of operations for the year.

The statements include:

  • A summary of municipal revenues and expenses

  • The Village’s assets, liabilities, and accumulated surplus

  • Information on reserves and debt, if applicable

  • Notes explaining significant accounting policies and financial information

Municipal financial statements are prepared using accrual accounting, which means that revenues and expenses are recorded when they are earned or incurred, not only when cash is received or paid. As a result, certain amounts shown in the statements—such as accrued employee benefits or tangible capital assets—may not correspond directly to cash transactions during the year but are included to ensure a complete and accurate financial picture.

Publishing audited financial statements allows residents, Council, and the Province to review how public funds have been managed and ensures the Village meets its legislated reporting requirements. These statements also assist Council in making informed decisions related to budgeting, taxation, service delivery, and long-term financial planning.

The Village of Donalda’s audited financial statements are provided below in accordance with provincial requirements.

Questions regarding the audited financial statements may be directed to the Village Office.
